Community Connections Tour - WA

In Boorloo country (Perth)

30 March - 2 April, 2026

Community Connections Tour workshops

Workshops for people with intellectual disability were co-delivered delivered by Julia Hawkins, Charlotte York and Learn and Lead member, Ally Gillies.

These workshops were delivered at Developmental Disability WA and Down Syndrome WA.

Jenny Downs from the Kids Institute also joined in the co-delivery for a workshop at Carers WA.

Meetings with organisations, First Nations groups, and roundtables

Although we only visited Perth, we had people join our consultations online from the Wheatbelt, the Southwest and from South Australia. We also heard about health care in the Kimberly and the Northwest too.

A number of organisations reached out to connect with the team while we were in Perth.

We met with Moorditj Koort and the Aboriginal Health Council of WA to hear about issues facing First Nations people with intellectual disability.

We also met with representatives from Microboards Australia, People with Disability WA, Kiind, the WA Department of Health and the Health Consumers Council of WA.

What's next?

A plain language report will be added to this page soon. You can read all the findings as the Tour continues.

In the coming months, we are connecting with people in NSW, Tasmania and Victoria.
