Why was the Centre created?
The establishment of the Centre is a response to the significant health disadvantage experienced by people with intellectual disability.
The Centre supports the delivery of the Australian government’s National Roadmap for Improving the Health of People with Intellectual Disability. The Australian Government has provided the Centre $22 million over four years from 2022-23.
The Centre builds on the work of 3DN and the Centre's Consortium organisations.
3DN was established in 2009 by the Chair, Intellectual Disability Mental Health within UNSW Faculty of Medicine and Health. The Chair is funded by NSW Ministry of Health Mental Health Branch and the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.
3DN became part of the Centre in 2024.
