A model of care is the way a health service is delivered to patients.
We know that health care does not always meet the needs of people with intellectual disability.
In this project, we are looking at different ways that health care is delivered to people with intellectual disability. This includes where and how health care is delivered.
We are also looking at how some healthcare services improve their care for people with intellectual disability and what resources are available to help healthcare services become better at providing health care for people with intellectual disability.
We are listening to what people with people with intellectual disability think about health care.
By looking at these aspects of care, we can find out what is working, and what is not.
As part of this project, we are:
- writing a report about the models of care used in intellectual disability health in Australia
- collecting resources that tell health services how to improve how they care for people with intellectual disability
- creating resources to help people be inclusive when providing health care for people with intellectual disability
