2025 Innovation Seed Funding Grants

The Centre’s 2025 Innovation Seed Funding Grants are now open.

The grants support:

  • Innovative projects in intellectual disability health that align to the Centre’s priorities
  • Inclusive projects that have people with intellectual disability and their families in meaningful roles
  • Collaboration in intellectual disability health
Focus areas

For the 2025 grant round, the Centre has identified four focus areas:

  • Mental health
  • Primary and preventative health
  • Scope or evaluate new models of care
  • Care pathways, including transitions in care or complex care needs
Types of activities

Within these focus areas, the Centre is open to a broad range of projects in intellectual disability health. Eligible activities may include but are not limited to: 

  • Research and evaluation activities, including the use of Commonwealth data assets. 
  • Health promotion activities, including advocacy and health literacy. 
  • Health and care workforce education and training activities, including resource creation. 
Who is eligible?

The grants are open to a range of health and disability organisations. Organisations that are part of the Centre Consortium are not eligible. 

How much is available?

The grants will support between 5 to 8 projects of $20,000 to $80,000 each.

No, staff and organisations who are part of the 9 Centre Consortium members listed at the bottom of Page 1 of the Innovation Seed Funding Grant Guidelines cannot lead an application, be part of a project team, or be a partner organisation on applications. The Innovation Seed Funding Grants are an important opportunity for the Centre to support the efforts of our Partners, Collaborators and other organisations across health and disability sector to improve the health of people with intellectual disability. 

Yes, staff and organisations who are affiliates of the 9 Centre Consortium members can lead an application, be part of a project team, or be a partner organisation on applications. For example, this includes medical research institutes affiliated with UNSW Sydney and University of Melbourne. 

Yes, you can be lead applicant on one application only. 

No, but the Centre encourages organisations to submit their strongest application. The Centre will prioritise a range of projects and it is highly unlikely an organisation will have more than one successful project. 

No, there is not a minimum number of partner organisations for an application and partner organisations are not a requirement for eligibility. However, projects will be compared on their engagement as part of the review process. 

Yes, applications must include an Easy Read version of their project. Applications that do not submit an Easy Read version of their project will be ineligible for review. 

No, there is no page limit for the Easy Read version of applications. Applicants should refer to the resources for Easy Read development that are included in the Grant Guidelines if they require further information. 

Broad guidance is given on Page 3 of the Grant Guidelines and in the Seed Grant Terms available at the end of the application form. Within the Seed Grant Terms, applicants are referred to Item B3 of the Commonwealth Grant Agreement to understand what the Seed Grant can (and cannot) be used for.  

As noted in the Application Form, the Centre priority that you select will determine which of the Centre Team Leads conducts the expert review for the Review Committee. The Centre priority and Team Lead grouping is as follows: 

  • Show national leadership in intellectual disability health (Driving Change Team Lead)
  • Improve health services, so they can meet the needs of people with intellectual disability (Health Services Development Team Lead)
  • Improve research about intellectual disability health and ensure that research and data is used to inform and improve health care for people with intellectual disability (Research and Data Team Lead)
  • Ensure that people with intellectual disability, their families, disability workers, and health workers can all access high-quality health care resources (Resource and Innovation Team Lead)

Please select only one Centre priority on the application form. 
 

No, please do not approach staff from Centre Consortium organisations for assistance with your grant application. Please direct all questions to nceidhgrants@unsw.edu.au. As noted in the Grant Guidelines, questions received through other channels will not be answered. 

Applications will be assessed against the selection criteria by the Review Committee comprised of the Centre Lived Experience Lead, a member of the Learn and Lead Group, the Manager - First Nations Strategy, and two external reviewers. The Centre Team Leads will conduct an expert review of shortlisted applications that have self-selected the Centre priority relevant to their team. 

No, you may not change your application after it has been submitted via email. Please ensure that you have completed all the required documentation and are satisfied with the application prior to submission.  

No, the Centre will not provide resourcing to support delivery of the projects. 

As noted in the Seed Grant Terms at the end of the Application Form, the Commonwealth Grant that the Centre has entered into imposes obligations on anyone who undertakes Centre activities. Please refer to the Supplementary Terms of the Commonwealth Agreement for more information.
