New research conducted by the Centre has been published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry. The research found that people with intellectual disability are at increased risk of serious mental illness and psychiatric conditions.
The study examined the mental health of 97,644 people with intellectual disability and 451,502 people without intellectual disability in NSW using data from a range of health and human services.
Lead authors Dr Sam Arnold and Dr Yunhe Huang, found that people with intellectual disability showed greatly elevated prevalence of all mental health conditions when compared to the cohort without intellectual disability (76% vs 38%).
