Submission: Open Disclosure Framework

The Draft Open Disclosure Framework (the draft Framework) is a document that can guide health services and health workers to communicate openly with people whose health care has not gone to plan.

We think that the draft Framework can address the rights and needs of people with intellectual disability when things go wrong in health care settings.

In our submission we make suggested amendments to the draft Framework. The amendments address these two key open disclosure issues:

  • Ensuring that people with intellectual disability receive supports to fully participate in the open disclosure process.

  • Support or representation in the disclosure process by an advocate where the person wants or needs this.

Read our submission. Not in plain language.
