People with intellectual disability are more likely to have problems with heart health than people without intellectual disability.
Lots of things can increase the risk of heart problems including:
- being overweight
- smoking/vaping
- not doing enough exercise
- eating unhealthy food
- side effects of mental health medications
- sleep
It is important that healthcare professionals help patients with intellectual disability to stay healthy and reduce the risk of heart problems.
This project is about making a simple tool for health professionals to help them notice when someone with intellectual disability needs help with their health.
We are updating a health resource that was first made in 2016.
The new resource will use a simple traffic light system:
🔴 Red = Needs help
🟡 Yellow = Recommendations
🟢 Green = Target
