Resources for people with intellectual disability from diverse communities

People with intellectual disability from diverse communities and backgrounds often do not have access to health information and resources that meet their needs. This includes people from diverse cultures, genders, and sexualities, those who may experience social disadvantage or homelessness, those in contact with the justice system, or those with complex support needs.

The aim of this project is to find and make high quality, accessible health resources that meet the needs of people with intellectual disability from these diverse groups. The resources may be made for a range of users including people with intellectual disability, their carers and family, and health and disability professionals. Resources can include things like information sheets, videos, and template tools.

We will ask people where they need more information and make resources to meet their needs. We will also ask people what should be considered to make sure that resources are accessible and of good quality, and ask them to test out resources for us.

The project will:

  • create a list of what people tell us makes a good quality, accessible resource and use this when creating or suggesting resources,
  • provide links to already available resources from a wide variety of health and disability organisations, and
  • create new resources each year based on what people tell us is needed.
