Training about patient rights, informed decision making
A photo of someone with intellectual disability teaching a classroom of people with intellectual disability.

Training about people with intellectual should be developed and delivered by people with intellectual disability.

This project is about co-designing 3 training programs that people with intellectual disability will deliver to others with intellectual disability.

The training will cover:

  • patient rights
  • informed decision making
  • health literacy.

This project will build the capacity of people with intellectual disability from the Centre to deliver training and mentor new trainers across Australia.

Peer-delivered training works well as it is relatable, authentic and engaging.

This train-the-trainer model creates paid opportunities for trainers with intellectual disability within the Centre and across the country.

Project timeline: October 2025 to February 2027
