Workplace Champions Program

This is the second phase of the Children's Hospital at Westmead's 'Motivated for Change' program. This program aimed to improve health professionals' knowledge, skills, and ability to care for children with intellectual disability. It also monitored parent and staff satisfaction.

The program is a success and has been rolled out and implemented by 'champions' in the workplace. We aim to implement a modified program in busy departments within the hospital. We want to see if it can achieve behaviour change and positive outcomes in these settings. We also want to encourage more champions across different health care settings.

Champions can provide training and advice to colleagues who are unsure about how to give quality care to people with intellectual disability.

We will check the program’s effectiveness, including parent and staff satisfaction.

We will also set up an advisory group as part of this project, including people with intellectual disability and at least one First Nations person.
